There has been noted that Kirihara, 32)(1924) first reported the blood group distribution of Korean
in 1924. Recently, those who are interested the ralation between the cause of peptic ulcer of stomach
cancer and ABO blood groups in Western, are trying to make the reasoning of genetic factor and to
study its immunochemistry.
Since Alexander 4) (1921) first reported the possible relation between malignant disease and blood
groups, Aird 1) (1953), Manuila 39)(1958), Birnbaum 7) (1959) and Clark 14) (1956) published the result
which Group A has more significant to relate in stomach cancer and group O, non secretor group in
duodenal ulcer in Western. However, nothing is reported yet the relation of blood groups and stomach
cancer or peptic ulcer in Korean, except a little, disparate reports by others.
The purpose of this study is to find the relation between stomach cancer, peptic ulcer and blood
groups with 1000 cases of each in KOrean, who operated in General Surgical Department of National
Medical Center during the last 12 years.
The results are as following;
1. Group A distribution of stomach cancer (35.9%) has a significant value (p＜0.005), comparing
control blood A distribution (32.0%) of KOrean.
2. Group B distribution of peptic ulcer has a significant value, 33.2% (p＜0.005), comparing
control blood B group distribution of Korean (27.7%), Group B distribution (33.5%) in stomach
ulcer and Group B, 32.7% in duodenal ulcer are also significant (p＜0.005).
3. No. significant result is obtained in relation to the site of stomach cancer and blood groups
(p＞0.1).
4. There has been no significant result between blood groups and age at the onset of peptic ulcer
and stomach cancer (p＞0.1).
5. A significant result is obtained in relation to blood groups and age at operation of peptic ulcer
and stomach cancer (p＜0.005).
